Eric's Birthday and Father's Day

I got lucky this year and Eric's Birthday was on Father's Day, so I only had to get one present for him. He also hates getting things, so I decided to get him a Stand-Up Paddleboard lesson instead. He seems to have enjoyed himself even though he spent the entire preceding week telling me I better not be getting him Paddleboard lessons. Here a few pics documenting the day.

The weather was kind of crappy with 30 mph winds and a light drizzle, so everybody else cancelled and Eric got a one on one lesson. They started out the lesson on land learning how to use the paddle. And here they are hitting the water.

You start out kneeling on the paddleboard to get used to balancing while paddling. The guy standing in this picture is the instructor. Eric seemed to catch on pretty quickly and can be seen standing in the next picture.

As you can see from the above picture, Eric was just learning how to stand and has his knees bent to make it easier. At this point, they disappeared for about an hour up a river so that Eric could practice before hitting the ocean. The picture below is after they returned. You can see he looks much more comfortable on the board here.

He had such a great time, he's ready to go again this weekend.

Just had to share this.

This is how Kimber sleeps. I've seen dogs roll over before, but not sleep on their backs for extended periods of time. She loves it and frequently sleeps this way for hours at a time. It must be the heat.

Our New Dog

This is our new dog Kimber.  I picked her up from the Humane Society today after a mad dash around the island to get all of the necessary supplies to take care of her.  She is a 2 yr old Labrador Retriever mix and weighs ~45 lbs.

She is a very relaxed dog and gets along great with the neighbor's Labrador Amber.  We're not completely sure if she's completely housebroken, but so far she's very well behaved and responds to commands well.  (Though she does perform a down when you tell her to sit.)

Eric's looking forward to getting back here so that he can take her for a run.  We're glad we finally found a dog that we could call our own.
